Basic Taoist Practices

Begining gently: we focus the mind, and where that concentration goes, our energy lands. Now we can move it, transform it, play with the chi. This is the magic of Taoism, and the first step to “internal alchemy”. In place of mantras, we use Chi – the vital force.

First, we have to feel what it is and savour that feeling. It takes practice and relaxation. In Basic Taoist Practices, the simple and supremely powerful meditation called the Inner Smile creates the setting and lets us find, activate and multiply the Chi. In the Microcosmic Orbit, we take the Chi on a journey, flowing through the yin and yang channels.

Then, there’s no messing with us as we take up the Iron Shirt postures, building a structure that’s rooted way down into the Earth, letting us draw up her energy. We feel our own strength and fuel it with our breath.

The vibrations known as the Six Healing Sounds help us to nourish and heal the vital organs and get rid of emotions that we’re done with, thank you!

Throughout, we’ll weave exercises and stretches to complete the introduction to Chi Kung and we’ll emerge with a good, solid practice to get us through all the challenges we face, with foundations newly built for a richer life, in every sense.
