What is the Tao?
If you’ve clicked here to find a definition, you’ll be disappointed. Can’t be done.
“The Tao that is voiced is no longer that of eternal Tao.”
*Lao Tsu
I can tell you that, thousands of years ago, in China, a legacy was created which clever folk have adapted for us to use today. The ancient Taoists studied nature and discovered ways to become more in harmony with our own selves and the universe we inhabit.
The Taoist path unfolding before us is one of creativity, of finding balance, relaxing and yet staying alert, and coping merrily with the richness of life. It’s about honour and respect and about humility. It’s about having more choice in what we want in our lives and what would be good to shed. Particularly, it’s about learning to deal elegantly with the challenges that arise day to day. There is a lot of energy in the universe to help us on this path, here and now.
“To define the Tao is to stand on the highest mountain peak, swim in an ocean of love and soar with the dove in the valley of death. It is to connect with power.”
*Secret Teachings of the Tao Te Ching
“Taoists view the universe as a vast ocean of interacting energy driven by the interplay of yin and yang.”
